Hey, I’m Brian Batista Bettencourt (3B), a Toronto-based documentary wedding photographer.
I specialize in photographing weddings and elopements on analog film.
Before I started shooting weddings 5 years ago I used to work as a photojournalist & editorial photographer and did stints at the Globe and Mail , the Toronto Star and was a lead photographer for Country Music Television. My experiences from working in these fast-paced creative environments was really important in providing me with creative tools to become a well-rounded storyteller. The skillset I gained translated perfectly to the world of wedding photography which are now heavily focused on candid and natural storytelling and narrative. My goal is to create a fluid and seamless relationship between my natural ability to capture impermanent moments along with capturing the mundane beauty of the every-day aesthetic through honest and poignant portraiture.
Being a film wedding photographer has given me immense opportunities to work and travel across the entire country and the world, including my homeland of Portugal, my hometown of Ottawa, Ontario and my partner's hometown of Calgary, Alberta. Toronto has been home for over a decade after initially moving to the city to pursue Journalism at Toronto Metropolitan University. Recently my career as a film wedding photographer and Super 8 wedding film maker have allowed me to visit and work in some of my favourite places across the world including Brooklyn New York, Los Angeles, Rome, Tuscany, Spain & Amsterdam. Both my Canadian and EU passports are updated and ready to go for any assignment or wedding across the globe.
I’m beyond lucky I get to share in all these experiences with my significant other Ryanne Hollies, who collaborates with me as a photographer on wedding days and large creative commercial projects. She’s also the lead designer for all our products and albums. We are separate artists who have a creative and collaborative partnership in hopes of enhancing one another’s craft by constantly challenging and pushing one another to evolve and execute our true visions.
No matter what I shoot as a photographer there will always be small traces of my creative self within the photographs. I always hope to achieve empathy and a sense of nostalgia through my images. A combination of documentary and fine art, cinematic and editorial, all elements influenced by my creative and personal experiences.
